That’s why we thought of sharing some basic details on how you can write a good resume.

Use a template

There is no need to start writing your resume from the scratch. You can find numerous resume templates on the internet. By browsing through those resume templates, you can easily end up selecting a good template. Then you can use it and write your resume.

This will not just help you to save time but can also help you with getting a related and professional layout to the resume.

Stick to a professional font

Employers and hiring managers have very little time to go through a resume. Therefore, it is important for you to stick to a professional font and make life easy for them.

You should always stick to a clean and basic font, such as Times New Roman and Arial. Likewise, you should also keep the font size between 10 and 12.

Include only relevant information

You may have extensive educational qualifications or work experience. However, you should not include all of them and write a 6 or 7-page resume. Instead, you will need to include only the most relevant information and write a 1 or 2-page resume.

According to a recent study, it has been identified that a hiring manager usually spends around six seconds to go through a resume. Hence, writing a one-page resume with the most appropriate information will always be beneficial.

Search for keywords in job postings and include them

Before you start writing the resume, it is worth going through the job posting. Then you should figure out the keywords included in it. These keywords should be included in your resume as well.

Then you can showcase that you are the perfect candidate for the job available. On the other hand, including appropriate keywords in your resume will also help you to get through ATS applications that employers use.

Use active language

Make sure that you never use passive language while writing the resume. It is important to use active language as much as possible. There should not be any extraneous words used within your resume as well.

However, you can think about using power words, such as accomplished, completed, earned, and achieved. Make sure that you don’t confuse your reader with the resume.

Have appropriate margins in the resume

It is important for you to keep a margin of at least one inch on all sides of the resume. On top of that, you should use single spaces in between the lines. Make sure that you have enough white space in the resume.

The most appropriate line spacing you can use is either 1.15 or 1.5. However, you can also increase the margins based on your common sense.

Don’t forget to proofread the resume

Once you are done with writing the resume, you will need to take your time and proofread it. If there are mistakes in the resume, you will be creating a negative impression on the minds of hiring managers who go through it.

This is why you will need to pay extra attention to proofreading your resume. As you go through the resume, you will need to check for both grammar and spelling errors.

There are proofreading tools that you can use to get the job done as well. Or else, you can give your resume to another person, who will spot all the mistakes that you missed.

Include the sections and subheadings that you really need

Whether you are creating a resume from the scratch or editing a template, you need to make sure that you are only including the sections or subheadings that you really need. For example, you will be able to find “Resume Objective” and “Resume Summary” in some of the resume templates.

There is no need for you to use both of them. In case if you just graduated from high school, there is no need to include a work history section.

That’s because you don has any work experience. However, you can think about including sections to highlight your academic achievements, relevant coursework, internship experiences, and volunteer work that you have.
